Personal bests by Kristen Petry, Shelton McLean, Samantha Olson, Marcus Blessing, and Sam Hunt started off the 2012 season with a bang. Friday night at the Astronaut Invitational in Titusville, Kristen Petry, Cocoa Beach High School, won the girls vault competition with a personal best and school record of 11′. She was followed by Samantha Olson, Merritt Island High School, who finished in 2nd place with a personal best and school record of 10′. Finishing out the girls was Amanda Rigdon, Merritt Island High School, who finished 3rd with a vault of 9′. Corey Smith, Holy Trinity School, and Shelton McLean, Merritt Island High School, finished first and second place respectively both with a height of 13’6″ which is a personal best for Shelton. This is the first competition for Corey representing Holy Trinity since he was diagnosed with a broken back in January of 2011. Johnny Batch, Merritt Island High School, finished 4th with a vault of 11’6″. Andrew Bocci, Merritt Island High School, finished 5th with a vault of 11′. Sam Hunt, Titusville High School, set a PR of 11′ and finished in the top 8.
Marcus Blessing, Leesburg High School, opened up the season with a big PR vault of 12’6″ to win the Wildcat Open on Monday at Winter Park High School. Sydney McWilliams, Leesburg High School, finished in third with a vault of 8’6″.
Pole Vault City is extremely proud of all the outstanding performances this week and looks forward to exciting results for the rest of the season.
