The first pole vault camp of 2009 for Pole Vault City will be held in April at Titusville Astronaut High School. The camp will be on Thursday, April 9th and Friday, April 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily. This is a day pole vault camp and vaulters will need to provide their own transportation both to and from the camp site. The cost of the pole vault camp is $300 per vaulter and includes instruction, use of equipment, including poles, camp booklet, t-shirt, and lunch. Vaulters are encouraged to bring sunscreen, athletic attire, and both track and running shoes. To secure a spot in the pole vault camp, please email Coach Haeck at nolevault@gmail.com. If you need additional information, Coach Haeck can be reached at 352.348.5930.

Hunter, how many times have I told you chicks don’t dig dorky pole vaulters. Make that 15 and 3 now. You can add London Enos, Lucy Walters, and April Rogers to the list of confirmed camp attendees.

Camp is filling up, make sure to secure your spot by emailing me! I have sent out medical reIease forms and waivers to those who are confirmed. As of this morning, Saturday April 4th, it looks like we are at 12, that leaves about 6 slots remaining. How can I register for the April 9-10 Camp?
Can you tell me the best girl pole vault jumps so far for 2009
We only had two at the time of that comment, we are closer to 10 at this point. If we advertise a camp, we will run that camp. If a camp only has a few vaulters, then we will coach only a few athletes. The only way a camp is cancelled is due to extremely inclement weather. This camp is a go and we look forward to seeing all the vaulters, parents, and coaches at Titusville Astronaut High School.
Right now you have only two confirmed registrants for the camp. Will you cancel if you receive only one or two more?
We work with athletes of all ages. A high school freshman is definitely in the age ranges that we work with and so is the 13 year old. I would say that the range would be from 6th grade up to collegiate and masters vaulters. My stepson Jake is in the 3rd grade and he loves to pole vault. It’s never to early to learn how to vault correctly. We also treat everyone as if they don’t know how to vault and let the vaulter impress us with their abilities and knowledge. Once a vaulter shows competence at a short approach, he or she moves back to a longer approach and bigger poles, making sure that proper technique and safety is being shown.
What age group is the camp for? I have a high school freshman who is still working on learning the skill of pole vaulting and an almost 13 year old who is interested in learning.
Yes, we supply all the poles and we have a very large inventory of them from which you can choose.
Erick,
I think it is admirable to set your goals high then try to achieve them. According to the Broward County North Qualifier Results you have your work cut out for you. I would suggest that you adjust your goals to a little more achievable levels. First you should try and set your school record, which is 15’9.5″, held by Ben Dickens. Upon accomplishing that goal, you could try and set the Broward County record, which coincidently is also the Florida High School record of 16’7″, held by Riley Egan of St. Thomas Aquinas. If you pick off those two records, I would definitely say you are well on your way to some good things.
As far as a magic pole vault pill, I don’t have one. The purpose of vault camp is for instructors to identify your weaknesses and flaws, show you ways of correcting those errors, and the rest is up to you. You have to take the information back home, process the information and work very hard to be able to vault high. Some people will PR at camp simply due to the fact that we have the proper equipment and that’s all they needed. Others will take longer. If you expect to leave pole vault camp jumping 2 feet higher, you may be disappointed. We can show you the way, but hard work will take you to the top with our suggestions and instructions
Also, will poles be provided, or do i have to bring one?
Mr. Haeck,
I myself am a pole vaulter at marjory stoneman douglas high school, here in south florida (parkland). I have no problem going up there for a training camp during the summer, but how much do you believe that this will help me improve? I am hoping to someday break Sergey Bubka’s world record and am trying my very hardest to jump as high as I can. Also, can I really improve a great amount in such a short time?
Erick Vargas
Julie,
Unfortunately, there aren’t as many quality pole vault coaches as there should be in a state as large as Florida. Having been in the South Florida area for the last 3 years, I understand your frustration. Pole Vault City has not set it’s summer vault camp schedule as of yet and is considering doing a camp in the South Florida area. As soon as the summer schedule is set, we will post it on our site so vaulters can make arrangements to attend. We wish your daughter all the best at her upcoming district meet and look forward to meeting and working with her in the future.
I am interested in having my daughter take some “classes” with a pole vault coach. Unfortunately, she cannot attend your camp in April. We live in Miami, is there anyone you could reccomend? She has districts April 25th and would like help with her technique-she doesn’t really have a coach in her team. Additionaly, will you be conducting more camps, and any closer to Miami? I would greatly appreciate your help-thanks.
Mike,
At this time in the game, there is plenty of room in the camp. I currently have 2 confirmed registrants for the camp, one on each side of the gender trail. With only one pit at Titusville Astronaut High School, I wouldn’t like to see any more than 18 for the camp. That allows me to work with groups of 6. Small group instruction is vital to the success of our program. If for some reason your child gets sick during the camp, we would gladly work out a refund with you. As far as an injury is concerned, we certainly pride ourselves on safety first and foremost. If an athlete is following instructions and is somehow injured, a refund would definitely be in the picture. If an athlete is injured in the process of horseplay or the injury is due to the athlete not following proper instruction, then I don’t believe a refund would be possible. A specific example of this would be if we instructed a vaulter not to land on their feet in the pit and they ignore our instructional advice, resulting in a sprained ankle due to the failure to listen: The athlete would have the opportunity to finish camp in the position of a student spectator. Please understand that in the many years that we have been doing vault camps, we have never had a dispute with a parent or coach over a refund situation. Again, Pole Vault City prides itself on athletes not being injured during camp due to our strict safety procedures and instruction.
Coach,
Do you still have space in the pole vault camp?
How many girls have signed up?
How many boys have signed up?
What is the camp max?
Is there any refund if my kid is sick or injured?
Thanks!
Mike Bauer
